River Jordan
Author of Praying for Strangers ~ Broadcaster ~ Storyteller
River Jordan is an author, speaker, broadcaster and storyteller. She is a passionate advocate for the power of story in the lives of extraordinary people walking out their everyday lives.
River's writing career as a playwright and spent over ten years writing and directing. She is the best-selling author of four novels and a non-fiction work documenting one special New Year's resolution - to pray for a stranger every day. As a critically-acclaimed author her work has been most frequently cast in the company of such writers as Flannery O'Conner, William Faulkner and Harper Lee. Readers continually voice that they didn't so much as read her books as immerse themselves into the story. You are right there when the magnolia unfolds. The waves come crashing in, spraying salty gulf water. The lightning flashes and the thunder rolls across that big, empty field.
As a divine storyteller, Ms. Jordan takes the stage with authority and authentic energy. Her quick wit and composure captivates audiences who find her transparency refreshing. She doesn't memorize speeches and doesn't read from notes. Rather she connects with each audience member on a personal level telling the right story, offering the perfect word in that due season. Whether the event is a literary conference, a fundraiser for the homeless, or a corporate keynote, Ms. Jordan brings audiences to laughter, touches their hearts deeply and always brings the story home receiving five star reviews and standing ovations as she does so.
With a voice "like southern comfort" River has delighted listeners for over eight years from the studio with her excellent broadcast, Clearstory Radio. In high school, River was awarded a broadcast scholarship due to her serious journalist work and radio shows. Although River was bitten by the Theatre bug and took her writing talents to the stage and page, she never gave up her love for radio. After moving to Nashville fourteen years ago, she returned to the air with her eclectic creative program, Clearstory Radio showcasing hundreds of authors including Pulitzer Prize winning and best-selling writers of all genres. A great line up of authors and creatives from all walks of life will air on the new Clearstory Podcast series launching in the Spring of 2017.
In her corporate life, whether obtaining million dollar educational grants, serving as Executive Director for an Advocacy Center for Child Abuse in Florida or launching a city wide arts festival in Taos, New Mexico, Ms. Jordan brings a spirit of excellence, a seasoned determination and a genuine compassion to every facet of her professional life.
Ms. Jordan lives with her Big Dog on a hill just a stone’s throw from Nashville city limits surrounded by her wild, southern family. When not on the road you'll find her on her porch at night watching the moon move through the star-filled sky and contemplating all manner of things human and divine.
In the fullness of time, her newest book, Confessions of An American Mystic, Stories of Faith and Fiction (Jericho Books, Hachette) will arrive in bookstores everywhere.
